Hello, I am Sophie

I work as a project manager. I am a parent and an expat living in Berlin, Germany.

A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually opened a new chapter of life overseas.

How It Started

Moving to Germany wasn't in the long-range plan. Like many expatriate moves, it began as a work opportunity and soon grew into something far bigger.

The early months were intense — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt tougher than they should.

The Adjustment Period

There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning on the job. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that worked for us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt stable.

Why I Built GentleSkyHinge

Most information online was either relocation guidance at a corporate level or shallow tourism material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.

This site exists to fill that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Germany.

What This Site Represents (And Does Not)

This site IS:

  • Hands-on insights from living in Germany
  • Centered on family life and daily realities
  • Updated whenever there are meaningful changes

This site ISN'T:

  • Not a tourism authority resource
  • Not a sponsored review platform
  • Not a generic travel blog

Looking Ahead

Our stay in Germany continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.

If you have questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere in Germany, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Best regards,

Sophie
